Washington DC takes their formal attire seriously. Our Washington DC area customers give us Dry Cleaning orders 23% more of the time than the city with the next highest rate of dry cleaning - Los Angeles. Interestingly, Chicago has the lowest rate of Dry Cleaning orders (Before we looked at the numbers our money would have been on Silicon Valley with all of those Patagonia jackets and blue jeans).

Though perhaps not a fashion icon, former House Speaker, Paul D. Ryan's comment that “members should wear appropriate business attire during all sittings of the House, however, brief their appearance on the floor may be” to show “mutual and institutional respect” may shed some light on the DC area's affinity for business and formal attire.

According to a Gallup poll, 17% of U.S. workers nationally are employed by some branch of government, be it local, state, or federal. In the Washington DC area, however, 38% of people polled stated that they work for federal, state, or local government.

Since a role working in the government often comes with a dress code, our Washington DC dry cleaning customer numbers make a bit more sense.
