Barrier Free Living Campaign
We’re excited to announce our first partnership with Barrier Free Living’s Freedom House shelter in New York City.
Beginning in December 2024, Rinse Rise will provide professional laundry services to the almost 90 residents of Freedom House, aimed at providing the dignity and empowerment these families need to rebuild their lives.
Freedom House offers private transitional housing spaces for individuals and families who have recently fled situations of domestic violence, helping them regain stability. Freedom House offers occupational therapists, emergency childcare, and family services to assist individuals and families to begin healing from the violence they experienced and to prepare for the future.
Unfortunately, many residents arrive to Freedom House with minimal possesions and avoid using the shelter’s shared laundry facilities due to cost. Rinse Rise will fill this need, reducing a burden and helping make it easier for them to rebound back into the best versions of themselves.
About Barrier Free Living
Barrier Free Living (BFL) is a New York-based organization dedicated to empowering survivors of domestic violence, particularly those with disabilities. BFL operates multiple programs to support individuals and families, including:
- Freedom House Shelter: A safe and accessible transitional housing facility for survivors of domestic violence with disabilities and their families. To learn more, take a virtual tour of the space.
- Secret Garden: BFL’s award winning program for people with disabilities who have experienced domestic violence. This program offers domestic violence and sexual assault counseling, innovative support groups, advocacy, and safety planning for survivors.
- BFL Apartments: Provides 50 family units for families with a disabled head of household who is a victim/survivor of domestic violence and 70 studio apartments for disabled victims/survivors of domestic violence, people with disabilities who are being diverted from possible nursing home placement, and veterans with disabilities.
